Windmill Primary Foundation School is a two-form entry school situated in the semi-rural town of Raunds. Raunds is in the east of the county of Northamptonshire and is a steadily growing community. Raunds is within easy reach of several major towns the nearest of which is Wellingborough. It lies immediately adjacent to the A45.
Windmill Primary accepts children mainly from Raunds from a range of private and council housing. Children are also transported to our school from surrounding towns and villages.
With a present roll of 385 children, Windmill Primary is a large school. It has three main buildings housing Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and an Information and Communications Technology suite. Windmill has three playgrounds, two halls, a large staff room, a learner sized covered and heated swimming pool with changing rooms, and extensive grounds. The bungalow on the school site, once used to house the caretaker, now hosts a local play group, Raunds Playmates.
There are over 40 members of staff. These include 17 teachers, including the headteacher and S.E.N.Co., 2 teaching assistants, 4 classroom assistants, 9 dining supervisors, a School Finance Officer, a School Secretary, 9 Learning Support Assistants, a Site Manager and 5 Cleaning Operatives. We operate 2 job shares amongst our teachers.
We offer many extra-curricular activities for our pupils. These include Swimming, Football, Netball, Gymnastics, Choir, Art, Craft, Recorders and French for beginners. A significant number of our children take advantage of the peripatetic music service that visits our school. Instruments available for children to play include guitars, violins, cellos, trumpets and cornets.
Since Windmill used to be a Grant Maintained School, and is now a Foundation School, it enjoys the active support and involvement of its Governing Body. They are regular visitors to our school and show a keen interest in all aspects of its continued development and growth.
Windmill also enjoys a very active and supportive parent body. We are very grateful for the support we receive from our parent helpers and can rely upon our P.T.A,. known as the Raunds Windmill School Association or R.W.S.A for short, to contribute both materially and financially to our school.
Windmill is welcoming to all visitors. We operate a very active "Open door policy" and keep our parents as informed as possible. We provide a half termly newsletter, known as Windmill Whispers, regular curriculum update letters, half termly Home-School information books, Homework Dairies and comprehensive end of Year reports.
Our pupils come from a variety of social backgrounds and present a spectrum of abilities, needs and motivation. We pride ourselves upon our school's happy and very caring atmosphere and the way in which we are skilled at promoting the positive rather than negative. We have our rules and regulations that everyone is expected to strictly keep. These are epitomised within our School Charter and Golden Rules. However, our Behaviour and Discipline Policy is geared towards letting our children know when they have done well and rewarding them for it.
