We have a unique curriculum based children’s natural
inquisitiveness. It is divided into themes and is both creative and
practical. Every child in our school follows the syllabus set down by the
Foundation Stage and then the National Curriculum. They all study:
- Communication,
Language and Literacy (English)
- Knowledge and
Understanding of the World
- Science
- History
- Geography
- Design
&Technology
- RE
- Mathematical
Development (Maths)
- Physical
Development
- Creative
Development
- Social and personal
Development
- Information and
Communications Technology
Our pupils also study Religious Education. At Windmill we follow the
Northamptonshire Syllabus. Should you so desire, you may remove your child
from any lessons involving Religious Education. If you wish to exercise
this right you must inform the Headteacher and
Governors in writing.
We place great store on the basic skills but still offer a broadly based
and balanced curriculum so that every child may progress and succeed at
their own level. Children are regularly assessed so that we can consider
progress, match work appropriately and plan their future work. Our
Reception children are assessed the moment they start with us. Pupils at
the end of Key Stages 1 and 2 are formally assessed against national
criteria.
Since we are in the very fortunate position of being able to offer an
indoor heated pool, the majority of children will learn to swim before they
leave us. Our Pool is open all year round. Our pupils are taught by a specialist
coach and will need the appropriate costume, a swimming hat, a towel and a
bag in which to carry everything when it is their turn to swim. Children
are also taught PE by a specialist coach.
We arrange many trips and visits for our children throughout the year.
In Year 4 we offer a two night residential trip to Burwell House, Cambridgeshire
and in Year 6 a week long trip to Osmington Bay,
Dorset.
Should you ever have any concerns or indeed complaints about the
curriculum at Windmill, we have a very supportive Curriculum complaint policy/procedure
available to you. However, it is our experience that, if you speak to your
child’s class teacher in the first instance, they will be able to
allay any fears or concerns you may have. Of course, should you still be
dissatisfied, you are more than welcome to make an appointment to see the Headteacher himself. This applies to any
complaint or concern you may have not just those relating to the
curriculum.
