Friday 29th March saw the culmination of the song writing component of this year’s Whole Child project which took place during Term 3 and 4.
During Term 1 and 2 children from all the Trust schools worked with Leigh Wolmarans on developing a range of Drama skills and this culminated in 5 children from each school collaborating together for a further 2 days to create and rehearse a presentation that highlighted the importance of the key values that are embedded across the Nene Education trust schools. The presentation was then performed to all Trust schools in one busy touring day. It was now the turn of our musicians to take part in the song writing project.
John Bowman, a professional songwriter, visited all schools and worked with whole classes to write, rehearse and record their own song that celebrated the importance of respecting the individual characteristics of every individual child. After each of these day visits 5 unique songs were created.
‘Friends Are All We Need’ : St Peter’s CE Academy
‘The Real Me’ : Windmill Primary School
‘People Are Different And That Doesn’t Matter’ : Newton Road Primary School
‘We are all the Same in Different Ways’ : Stanwick Primary School
‘Just Be You’ : Manor School Sports College
5 children from each school were then given the opportunity to continue the project during a further 2 days of rehearsals where the Nene Education Trust Song ‘We Are All Unique’ was composed. At the end of the two days they were then ready to take and perform the song to all 5 Trust schools.
By the end of the touring day over 800 children listened to the performances of these songs. A particular highlight was the visit to Stanwick Primary where the whole school had learnt their own song and the performance concluded with everybody in the school singing.
At the end of the day students who had participated in the project were asked about aspects that they had enjoyed.
‘Making new friends, going around the schools’
‘Performing our songs to my school and other schools’
‘Singing and expressing my feelings’
‘Writing the lyrics’
All the songs that have been composed can be listened to by scrolling down the home page of the Nene Education Trust website https://neneeducationtrust.org.uk/
The project continues after Easter where the same message will be promoted but this time in the form of Dance where a different set of students will get the opportunity to work with a professional dancer and choreographer and showcase their skills to audiences from all our schools.
